Policies, training, and evidence: a complete data management program, ready to deploy

Our Data Management Policy and Education Program is a 12-policy framework with a role-based training curriculum that teaches every employee what those policies expect them to do day-to-day. It is grounded in DCAM and the DMBoK, and it arrives ready for your LMS.

The bridge from framework to standard work

A framework gives you a common language and a way to measure capabilities. Policies turn that language into an organizational commitment and mandate. But neither produces results until the people doing the work know what is expected of them and how to do it.

“Adopting a framework and training a few champions to implement it will not deliver results at the scale and velocity required to conquer today's AI and data challenges. Embed policies and mobilize a trained workforce, because that’s what it takes.”

Jeff Wolkove, Founder

The program follows a single connected progression: establish the framework, define the policy, train the workforce, produce the evidence that shows the capability is real, and back it all up with an implementation plan.

What's in the program

The policy suite covers 12 enterprise data management policies containing 201 policy statements and 238 standards, spanning governance and leadership, operations and architecture, and risk and quality control. The curriculum delivers 32 courses and 78 hours of instruction across 5 audience tiers, from all staff and contractors through advanced practitioners and program leaders. Alongside them sit 157 reusable job aids: council charter templates, data quality scorecards, term request forms, escalation guides, and the other everyday artifacts that make a program visible and repeatable.

A phased implementation timeline

No organization can enforce 201 policy statements on day 1, and DMPEP™ does not ask you to. The policy and education roadmap offers a phased implementation timeline that can be easily adapted to your organization's current state.

Typically, an enterprise would conduct a DCAM assessment to measure current capabilities and calibrate the policy and training deployment roadmap to match its needs.

That roadmap sequences policy adoption, education, applied execution, and measurement based on dependencies.

  • Form the governance authority, appoint the key roles, and launch workforce-wide awareness training.
  • Build the foundational registers and inventories and train managers on operational leadership.
  • Extend specialist training, lineage mapping, and automated monitoring across the remaining domains.
  • Continuous business-as-usual refresh with leadership reviews and program audits.

The target is DCAM Level 5, Achieved, across all DCAM capabilities. A fully integrated policy and workforce training program will get you there.

Data Management Policies & Training FAQ

What is DMPEP?

DMPEP, the Data Management Policy and Education Program, is a complete data management program in a box: 12 enterprise data management policies containing 201 policy statements and 238 standards, plus 32 role-based training courses delivering 78 hours of instruction. It is grounded in DCAM and the DMBoK and arrives ready to deploy.

What data management policies are included?

The policy suite spans the full data management landscape: governance and leadership (data governance, strategy, roles, accountability, education, and data ethics), operations and architecture (data architecture, metadata, lifecycle, master and reference data), and risk and quality control (classification, privacy, security, risk management, data quality, and analytics reporting).

Who is the data management training for?

Everyone who touches organizational data. The 32 courses are organized in 5 audience tiers: all staff and contractors, managers, Data Owners and Data Stewards, data management specialists, and advanced practitioners and program leaders. Each tier gets the depth, vocabulary, and practical training appropriate for the role.

How does DMPEP deploy to our LMS?

The full curriculum ships as SCORM 1.2 and cmi5 packages, compatible with modern learning management systems, along with an LMS Administrator's Guide, course syllabi, and a configuration utility that lets you inject your organization's branding and terminology across every course.

Why do data governance programs need policies AND training?

A framework describes what good data management looks like. Policies turn that description into an organizational commitment and mandate. But neither produces results until the people doing the work know what is expected of them and how to do it - which is what role-based education delivers. Programs that invest in the framework alone are building architecture, not behavior.

Why does data management matter for AI readiness?

AI systems are trained and grounded on your data, so ungoverned data produces ungovernable AI. Adopting a framework and training a few champions will not deliver a program at the scale and velocity that today’s AI and data challenges require - it takes embedded policies and a trained workforce. Building that capability is exactly what DMPEP is for.
